Background of the Study

Teacher-student collaboration is a vital component of effective learning, fostering active participation, knowledge sharing, and critical thinking. Traditional methods of teacher-student interaction often rely on face-to-face classroom discussions, homework assignments, and periodic assessments (Adebayo & Yusuf, 2024). However, these approaches are often limited by time constraints, large class sizes, and inadequate feedback mechanisms, leading to reduced engagement and ineffective communication between teachers and students (Okonkwo & Salisu, 2023).

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have introduced new opportunities for enhancing teacher-student collaboration through digital platforms. AI-powered discussion forums provide an interactive and adaptive space where students can engage in academic discussions, seek clarifications, and receive real-time feedback from both teachers and peers (Olawale & Musa, 2024). These forums utilize AI-driven analytics to personalize discussions, recommend relevant learning materials, and moderate conversations to ensure meaningful and constructive engagement (Adebayo & Ibrahim, 2023).

Despite the potential benefits of AI-powered discussion forums, their adoption in secondary schools in Zaria Local Government Area remains low. Many schools still rely on traditional instructional methods that do not fully leverage digital technologies to enhance collaboration (Okonkwo & Salisu, 2024). Additionally, challenges such as limited digital literacy among teachers, inadequate technological infrastructure, and resistance to change hinder the effective implementation of AI-powered learning tools (Adebayo & Yusuf, 2024).

This study seeks to examine how AI-powered discussion forums can enhance teacher-student collaboration in secondary schools in Zaria. By assessing current collaboration challenges, evaluating the effectiveness of AI-driven platforms, and proposing implementation strategies, the research aims to provide valuable insights into the role of artificial intelligence in improving communication and engagement in education.

Statement of the Problem

The traditional teacher-student interaction model in many secondary schools in Zaria Local Government Area is limited by factors such as time constraints, ineffective communication, and lack of personalized feedback. Large class sizes make it difficult for teachers to provide individualized attention, while students often struggle to receive timely responses to their academic queries (Olawale & Musa, 2023). These challenges result in reduced engagement, passive learning, and diminished academic performance (Adebayo & Yusuf, 2024).

Although AI-powered discussion forums have been recognized as effective tools for improving student engagement and teacher-student interaction, their adoption in secondary schools in Zaria remains minimal. Many teachers lack the necessary training to integrate AI-based platforms into their teaching practices, and schools often face infrastructural limitations that hinder the widespread use of digital learning tools (Okonkwo & Salisu, 2024). Without addressing these barriers, teacher-student collaboration may continue to suffer, leading to suboptimal learning outcomes.

This study aims to investigate the potential of AI-powered discussion forums in enhancing teacher-student collaboration. By identifying the challenges affecting digital learning adoption and proposing practical solutions, the research will contribute to improving communication and engagement in secondary school education.
